What to pack in a diaper bag

To take a few months old baby out is a challenge for each pair of parents. Have you ever heard of this, “The smallest person in the house requires the most stuff.”? The baby may create the unexpected situation for you when you are not at home. So be prepared mentally and physically. He/she may be hungry when you are at mall or when the baby needs to take a nap when you are at friend’s home. What will you do?

  • A well-stocked diaper bag is a must. Here is the list I got from Parents magazine:
  • A change of clothes for you baby
  • An extra shirt for you
  • An infant hat with a brim
  • Sunblock
  • A receiving blanket
  • A burp cloth
  • A bottle
  • Plenty of diapers
  • A changing pad
  • Diaper-rash cream
  • A small package of wipes
  • Hand sanitizer
  • Pacifiers
  • Her favorite plush toy or comfort object
  • Plastic bags for dirty clothes and diapers
  • An index card with your info and your pediatrician’s name and phone number

5 Toys Every Baby Should Play With. ( 0 to 6 Months)

Toys play an important role in the development and learning process of a child. Make sure you give your child the right toys and the opportunity to learn.

Rattles: Give the baby different types of rattles and sound making or musical toys. This is how a baby learns about sound. Avoid very loud or noisy toys, as they may scare or disturb the baby.

Mouthing toys: Babies explore the world using their mouths. Give the baby different types of toys which he can bite or mouth. Also make sure that ALL the baby’s toys are always clean, because you can be sure that your baby will put them into his mouth.

Mobiles: Hang colorful mobiles above the baby. They can be of different sizes or shapes or can even be sound making. Mobiles help in the visual development of the baby.

Stuffed toys: Allow your baby to play with different textures. You can give the baby small stuffed toys that he/she can play with or even pieces of cloth of different textures. This will help to develop your baby’s sense of touch.

Colorful posters: This is not exactly a toy, but put up pictures and posters in the baby’s room that are bright and colorful. This is also important for the baby’s learning and sensory development.

Crib Safety Notes

The expert always emphasize that baby sleeping on back is the key factor to reduce SID. But the crib safety is also important. Today I saw the new warning: Make sure your child’s crib is safe from the Consumer Product Safety Commission. I would like to share with you to protect our babies.

1. Remove any stuffed animals, pillows, and soft bedding (including quilts and bumpers) from the crib.
2. Check that there isn’t a gap larger than the width of two fingers between the sides of the crib and the mattress.
3. Never use a crib that has any broken or missing slats.
4. Regularly tighten hardware to keep the slides firm.

Coming home with a new baby

Here is some suggestion when you leave hospital after birth. I learned a lot from my own experience. Because having a baby is a big change and a huge responsibility, you will feel very stressful. Relax! Talk to family and friends for support. Taking care of baby is important, but don’t ignore yourself. Plenty of rest during the first 2 months after delivery is necessary. Try to have a nap when baby does. Especially you are breastfeeding, because enough sleep will generate more milk. Eating well is important for you to have good quality milk and keep you strength up. So do not take housework too much and too soon. If help is offered, take it!

My first baby

I want to share with you some of my personal experience on parenting and baby caring. I have a few months old baby girl and she is doing exceptionally well.

I still remember how much struggling me and my husband had the second day after we were released from the hospital. With no guidance and nurses that did not keep their promise to provide us with guidance, life was tough and out of control. Because this is our first baby and we had no experience what so ever before this, we had to seek help from all sources that was available to us. This was a really stressful experience.

During the past few months while I was baby sitting alone at home I have done extensive research on some baby necessities and I realized so many things that I bought and received from friends are totally waste of money and they take up space at my home. However, there are some products that we got and products that based on my research will make lives much easier. In my next few articles I will provide you with detail analysis (based on my own experiences, research and the opinion of a few of my close friends and families) on the necessary products that can make a big difference in life for the next few years so you can make a wise decision on what to buy and what to avoid.
